UNLIMITED SEX-TALKby Rita Janse van ... on Thu, 2008-02-28 08:01. Northern Review: News
If Mxit seems like the only virtual danger on a cellphone, think again. Jamble is by far the most popular virtual community of fantasy and fun. Jamble is a service for cellphones that allows the sharing photos and videos with friends.
With Mxit you need a telephone number to exchange video clips or photos but with Jamble a user has a profile and one has the choice of exchanging cellphone numbers. Various children and teens admitted to having used chat rooms on Mxit but also admitted that Mxit is far behind Jamble. Anybody who is interested can be one’s friend on Jamble and it costs only R10 per month for unlimited use. A user creates a profile on Jamble and edits it by adding any video or picture to the gallery. One can also add a mood like sexy, hot, sleepy or happy or tell a friend what the user is currently doing.
If a user wants to add a buddy, a search is started by looking for a nickname, profile, birthday, area or favourites. Review decided to explore Jamble, only to find it’s just what one should be afraid of. Profiling oneself, adding pictures and videos, it wasn’t long before the first buddy request came through. A private conversation with a guy aged 18, who attends one of Polokwane’s popular schools, followed. The boy immediately wanted to meet the user because he liked the user’s body.
This is the real danger of Jamble. Since a user can share any photo or video clip, the circulation of explicit material between under-aged users is rife. How can parents protect their children? Parents won’t find Jamble under applications like Mxit on a child’s cellphone but it will be a normal web feed and Jamble will be under saved pages or bookmarks. Upon logging in, the user’s profile will appear on screen.
