WEBSITE POLLS GIVE ALL OPINIONS A VOICEby Jennifer Angliss on Wed, 2008-03-05 15:56. Northern Review: News
The NMG website runs regular opinion polls, where community members can give us their opinions. The results of the more recent questions show that people have very little hope for the future of South Africa, and very little confidence in the people in power. We asked: How positive are you at present about the economic outlook for South Africa for the rest of 2008?
Only five percent of people who answered said that they felt extremely positive. Sixteen percent voted that they felt positive, while an overwhelming 47 percent said they had no strong feelings either way, and voted neutral. Eleven percent voted that they had negative feelings about the future, and 21 percent voted that they felt extremely negative. In another poll, we asked: How well do you think Eskom did in communicating with the public about the electricity supply problems?
The results were no surprise. Nobody thought Eskom did extremely well. Twenty-two percent of people said that they communicated with the public reasonably well, while an overwhelming 78 percent said they thought Eskom were pathetic in their communication. When asked whether corruption in South Africa will ever end, the results were no more positive. Nobody answered yes, 18 percent said they didn’t know, and a staggering 82 percent said that they thought it would never end. However, on a more positive note, when we asked whether 2008 would be a better year for you than 2007, only 20 percent of people said that they didn’t know, while 80 percent said it will be a better year than last year. |
