REGISTER ROOMS FOR 2010by Kgaogelo Magolego on Wed, 2008-03-05 16:03. Northern Review: News
Over 800 rooms in Limpopo have already been contracted for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Some 557 of the rooms are hotel rooms while the others are at lodges and bed and breakfasts. A campaign is underway to get accommodation providers throughout the country to sign up with Fifa as official accommodation providers for the world cup. The 2010 Accommodation Sign Up Campaign was in Limpopo last week and aims to ensure that accommodation providers sign up with Match, a company appointed by Fifa to manage accommodation and transport logistics, ticketing and stadium requirements for the world cup. Match will manage bookings of rooms of all contracted accommodation on behalf of hotels and non hotels - through a computerised accommodation management system.
The campaign is an initiative of Match, The Tourism Enterprise Programme (TEP) and the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGSA). The three-tiered campaign consists of road shows, training sessions and meetings with stakeholders including accommodation owners, tourism associations and representatives from municipal and provincial governments. "The objective of the road shows and training sessions is to engage and receive input and guidance from the stakeholders on their accommodation needs for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. The response was positive and the 2010 campaign representatives received phenomenal support in the form of sponsorship for meeting venues and media endorsements," said Ms Thembi Kunene, CEO of TGCSA.
The campaign was launched in October last year and has been taken to all the host cities in the country to engage with stakeholders. According to Ms Nunu Nkosi, senior consultant at PR Dynamics, a company contracted to run the sign up campaign, there are still accommodation providers who don’t want to sign up with Match. Nkosi said among other benefits, those who sign up with Match will get free marketing to a global market through the Fifa website, which is designed to provide a one-stop-shop for all who will be planning trips, purchasing match tickets, accommodation and provision of internal transportation to and from different matches. Free marketing will be provided in the 2010 Fifa World Cup accommodation brochure to be distributed to all qualifying countries. Contracted hotels and non-hotels will serve as official 2010 Soccer World Cup accommodation providers.
