2010 UPDATEAS PART of the hosting of the 2010 Soccer World Cup, the Polokwane city council has leased land to a company for the construction of a hotel. The city council took this decision and others related to preparations for soccer spectacular during a meeting on Thursday. The lease agreement will last for 30 years with a possibility of renewal for a further 15 years. The municipality will receive over R70 000 which will increase over time, subject to inflation. Details on the size and cost of the hotel were not made available. In order to enhance the image of Polokwane as a sporting paradise, it was proposed that the municiality enter into a partnership with Winners Park Football Club.
The council meeting was also expected to decide on the possible appointment of a private entity to help the municipality with a road transport plan for the 2010 World Cup. This matter was, however, removed of the agenda for unspecified reasons. The road and transport plan forms part of a national road transport plan that already exists.
